Birmingham born artist Joseph Vincent Barber was one of the founding members of the first Society of Birmingham Artists in 1809. Barber trained under his father, Joseph Barber, who ran a drawing school in Birmingham. On the death of his father in 1811 Barber took over the running of the school. Leamington based artist Thomas Baker was one of his students.
