Commissioned with support from the Collaborative Arts Unit of the Arts Council of England and purchased with support from the Wellcome Trust, 1+1=1 features an interview with Patrick Wilkins, who received a heart and lung transplant at Papworth Hospital in Cambridge in 1999. In the interview, Mr Wilkins relates his dreams and experiences in the moments before and after the operation. The white light that emanates from the form in the film combines with Mr Wilkins' moving and often frightening account of his procedure to create a beautiful and powerful work. The film was commissioned jointly by Leamington Spa Art Gallery & Museum and Wysing Arts in Cambridge.
